Education is an important component of growth and change. Most of our courses grew out of our experience coaching Agile teams. What we teach is therefore focused on the application of Agile and Lean in the situations you encounter every day, be that as an Agile Coach or ScrumMaster, agile team member, even a business person. Our courses are taught by our coaches, they are interactive, experiential and we limit the class sizes to ensure an optimal individual learning experience.
We work in collaboration with various institutions to bring you courses of the highest quality. We are the South African partners for the Agile Coaching Institute and proudly offer two courses developed by Lyssa Adkins, Michael Spayd et al. We also conduct courses in association with Adventures with Agile and House of Test.
If you are ready to start your Agile or Lean journey this is the course for you. You will get a chance to explore the concepts, contrast it with more traditional ways of developing software, learn about different Agile methods as well as Lean software development and in general get an idea of the benefits and challenges, the changes and realities of Agile/Lean development. Through the use of multiple exercises and practical examples delegates practice agile release and iteration planning, the activities within an iteration and how to operate as an Agile team. It touches on all the disciplines, including project management and testing. Business people will understand the pivotal role they play in agile development and see how to get involved, what their responsibilities are and what they can expect as part of an agile team. This course is ICAgile certified.
If you are part of an agile team, a prioritised product backlog sits at the heart of your development effort. This backlog generally consists of user stories. Users of a system describe the functionality they would like the system to have using stories and ideally they are short, simple statements of intent. Having good user stories is imperative to an easy, smooth flow in an agile process and although they are simple, they are not easy to write. This course is aimed at developing the skills to write good user stories, as well as organise and manage stories.
The Agile Facilitator (2 days) in association with Agile Coaching Institute - R12 000.00 pp excl VAT
Catalyzing Collaboration, Delivering Results – The Agile Facilitator is a two and one-half day class (compressed into 2 calendar days) for experienced Agilists who wish to dramatically increase their facilitation skills, especially as applied to Agile ceremonies, collaborative events and other team “moments of truth.” The workshop focuses on professional facilitation skills and techniques as applied specifically within the Agile context. This is an intermediate class for Agilists with 3+ months experience working in an Agile environment.
This is one of the two courses we did not develop ourselves and for good reason: we bring this course to you in association with our American partners – the Agile Coaching Institute co-founded by Lyssa Adkins and Michael Spayd. The course was developed by Lyssa and other members of the institute. This course is ICAgile certified.
An Integral Approach to Working with Agile Teams in Complex Environments – Coaching Agile Teams is a three day workshop for experienced Agilists who wish to dramatically increase their overall agile coaching skills and effectiveness. We bring this course to you in association with our American partners – the Agile Coaching Institute. It is an experiential introduction to the Coaching Agile Teams book, written by Lyssa Adkins, co-founder of ACI. It is aimed at anyone in an agile leadership position, be it Agile Coach, ScrumMaster, Product Owner or Agile manager. It not only addresses getting teams up and running, but also examines the environments in which most Agile Teams (and Agile Coaches) operate. To attend this course, you must have 6+ months working in an Agile environment.
Coaching Agile Teams 3.0 addresses the complexity Agile leaders experience with expanded lessons in:
- ways to see the broader organizational environment more completely, and tools to work with it
- role complexity, including the role of managers and roles in a scaled agile setting
- team culture and evolution
- working with the impact of organizational culture
- the Integral Agile Operating System™ that provides a set of thinking tools and a model for crafting powerful agile coaching interventions
The course delivers the key agile coaching content, skills and mindsets, all built on a transformational education platform that over 2,000 students have already enjoyed. To say the least, it is highly interactive and experiential: we have never had anyone complain of being bored! To say the most, many students have reported that this course changed their work and even their life.
This course is ICAgile certified.
In agile teams we strive to develop every team member into a cross-functional individual. In all the methods the traditional roles have been replaced by a generalising specialist role called “team member”. Yet that does not take away the discipline of analysis – it is simply spread across developers, analysts and testers alike. And the business or product owner is more involved than ever before. This course focuses on essential agile analysis activities, regardless of who is performing them. If you are a business or systems analyst, business person, developer, tester, project manager or agile leader and would like to get an in-depth understanding of analysis on an agile project, come and join us for 3 days.
Agile development methodologies have quickly gained ground around the world and are today one of the more prevalent models for software development. For testers, the transition from transitional development models can be difficult or even frightening. It doesn’t have to be though. In this 2-day course, we do a deep-dive into what the principles of agile development mean for testers and how you can transform your work to become more efficient and effective. This course is facilitated by Louise Perold from House of Test.
Training from the Back of the Room (2 days) in association with Adventures with Agile - R10 000.00 pp excl VAT
Take your training skills to a more advanced level as you discover how the human brain really learns – which is very different from traditional assumptions about learning. Explore the most current “cognitive neuroscience” about effective instruction – how the brain takes in, stores, retrieves and uses knowledge.
Discover six powerful learning principles based on the best of brain science, then apply these principles every time you train, teach, or coach others.
These Accelerated Learning principles go hand-in-hand with team-based Agile and Scrum processes and principles. If you are an Agile coach or Scrum trainer, you will be especially pleased to discover how to combine Agile/Scrum concepts with collaborative learner-engagement.
During this dynamic, two-day training program, you will also practice using the 4Cs instructional design “map” with the content you teach, regardless of the complexity of the topic, size of the class, or level of learners. The 4Cs is a brain-based, four-step, Accelerated Learning instructional design model now used by thousands of trainers, teachers, and Scrum and Agile coaches worldwide.
Leave this train-the-trainer event with a trainer’s toolbag of practical, brain-based instructional strategies you can put to use immediately in your own training programs. You’ll also leave with a 55-page workbook filled with new resources and brain science information – the workbook is only available with this train-the-trainer program.
This course is facilitated by Training from the BACK of the Room certified trainers and agile coaches Simon Powers and Philiy Lander.

What people say about our courses
“Thank you for introducing us to Agile. I enjoyed the way you put information out and allowed us to find our connection with it. You got us thinking and we feel better positioned for the journey we are undertaking. Thank you.”
“Thank you! Just wanted to say I had a good 2 days. The training was done very well. We weren’t made to feel stupid or out of our element. It wasn’t stressful and we could easily adapt given our current situation… made us part of it and that is what I appreciated. I couldn’t have asked for a better trainer as my first stab at “AGILE”.”
“I would like to compliment you and your facilitators… I found the ‘Fundamentals of Agile’ extremely beneficial. I actually felt like I had been brainwashed (in a positive way) and my eyes opened… started implementing what we learnt as soon as we got back. Our development teams have embraced the changes and are working well together. I can already see a change in attitude and the higher quality of work being produced.”
“…the facilitation course not only re-ignited my passion for the facilitation side of things, but reminded me that that was a very important part of what I was doing in my role and provided me with new insights and TOOLS to help me do it even better.”
“Thank you for helping re-energize me to continue my Agile journey. I’m really enjoying practicing the various things I learned too. I believe they will make me a better facilitator.”
“I just spent 10 days facilitating strategy and process changes and the facilitation framework works!”.
